Project GQ – The Plan

Hey team

So I’ve decided its time to move on from the commodore and get back into a safari

This time we’re gona make a plan and stick to it. The first thing is easy, picking the right truck

Requirements are

Gq safari / Patrol
LWB – High roof
4.2 diesel manual

Reasons being, I’ve had 2 GQ’s in the past and they were both amazing trucks, my LWB was stolen and replaced with a SWB, which was much more aggressive and offroad-capable however this project isn’t going to be about mad rock crawling and deep bogs

The plan is to create a truck that can go on adventures, given some of the trips we’ve done lately as you’ve seen in the Webisodes, I’ve loved getting out and exploring the country. My thinking is to build up a truck that can be camped easily and yet will still get me and my +1 maybe even +3 somewhere remote and special for those epic morning views in the middle of nowhere to take in our beautiful country. For this is gona need to be able to have a double bed situation in the back, be it a roll out foam mattress or an inflatable.

options for a small gas cooker and some sort of refrigeration, possibly a roof tent if i can wrangle a good price out of someone. winch just in case and of course lots of lights everywhere

I plan a mild suspension lift to comfortably run 33’s – 35’s are just gona be overkill for the project and a body lift wont really be nessicary but if we get that far we’l see what happens. I’ll find someone to do a nice custom front bar for a which something a bit cool and interesting

A lot of this has been inspired by a friend whos currently taking a few weeks of work to drive his old landcruiser around the country and he’s been posting some seriously cool pictures so I wana get in on that too!
