Tesla in New Zealand

As many of you know from discussions on Social Media, I’m a big fan of Electric Vehicles

I’ve tried in the past to point out to people, if you’re not that moved by what you drive ( no pun intended) that the switch over to electric might not be a bad one, some of the biggest concerns we’ve heard back from the community have been based around things like range, as you know last year we drove the BMW i3 down to Hamilton and back to Auckland without a problem

It looks like we’re going to be getting the Model 3 from Tesla, which had some of the best presales of a vehicle to date.

Modern and simple inside and sharp outside, I have to say, I rather like it.. I’ve expressed our interest to Tesla NZ to get our sweaty hands on one to have a try, living in Tauranga now should be a pretty good test of how the range in this will go, claimed is 346km / 215 miles. which would be more than enough if those numbers stack up and a sub 2 second 0-60mph aint to be sneezed at..

Now I realize these cars are not for everyone, but think of all the people that get up, pull out of the garage and mosey to work in traffic, then turn around park it back in the garage and have zero emotional connection to their cars.. Now imagine, every single one of them is plugging in overnight and leaving more fuel for you and your big thirsty V8.. not bad huh?

Personally having really only driven BMW’s offerings I can see the appeal and if i was a suburb surfer and had a truck for roadies/towing then something like the i3 makes great sense as a commuter car

Either way, I’m glad they are here and I really hope they do well

We shall see.

Here’s our video of the BMW i3 from a while back
