THE EMPIRE
OK so first things first, there was A LOT of hype going into this, I’d seen this on Instagram weeks ago and my first impressions were this was the Carls Jr of Fried Chicken ( idea being that carls jr is awesome and maccas isn’t .. KFC being maccas in this logic)
I had actually taken this on a whim as a friend had come to visit and we were hangry and the response to what do you want for dinner was ” I dunno what do you want” so…. we went to Texas Chicken on Lincoln road Henderson.
As soon as we pulled in it looked very busy which almost gave us second thoughts but I had been looking forward to trying this for sometime so I insisted we brave it, which we did… and the wait wasn’t that bad at all to be fair, once we’d looked over the menu and choices were made the process was quite quick, albeit innaccurate and overcharged by $10 which was refunded when we got 3 cups for 2 people the recipt was questioned, reasoned and refunded the difference so not bad and no real points lost unless you want to be pedantic about customer service..
they run a ” take a number and wait ” system which dosent really seem to be effective when I’ve watched it before but it didnt take long for us to get a seat and get ready to wait, by the time we’d filled our drinks and cleaned our very dirty table our food was ready,
Basically, we ordered EVERYTHING
In the sense of if its worth doing its worth doing right…
I had the big burger i forget the name of it but its like $12 2 chicken patties, cheese bacon lettuce and tomato and a sauce, my date had the spicy wrap around the same price, and we ordered a 3 pack of each type of chicken they offer and a 3 pack of spicy tenders.
The big appeal of this place was I LOVE KFC’s hot n spicy chicken and will go more than once when they have it, and this if it was as good or heaven forbid, better… could be a game changer… but… It wasn’t … not by a long shot
The basic chicken they do was bland to say the very least, the spicy chicken wasn’t spicy at all and the herb chicken just tasted weird … the quality of the chicken was good but the batters were just highly disappointing.
The burger wasn’t bad, it wasn’t great… it was well prepared which is unusual for fast food and it wasn’t a bad size for the price, think burgerfuel over bigmac but yeah it just didn’t have any wow factor at all… again very bland which really didn’t seem at all what I would have expected, not to mention the pathetic amount of bacon…. The wrap I’m told was good and very spicy based on the sauce in a good way.
The best thing we had was the spicy tenders with BBQ sauce but even those didnt have a great covering so that again was somewhat disappointing
Over all I would say if you’re really looking for a KFC alternative… don’t bother I wouldn’t go back, again nothing was really bad… just none of it was that good either I give it a 4/10 and I won’t bother going back
