As has become ritual for Tuesday nights, we’ve been on the hunt for the best burgers out. Burger Burger came highly recommended by many people so it had to be done!
First things first, when I checked the website it listed first ( didn’t realize there was more than one) their ponsonby store which if you’ve been to ponsnobby you know is a pain in the ass for parking even on a tuesday night.
Easy enough to find in I must say a very cool little space called ” Ponsonby Central” which was packed full of boutiquey kinda places to eat so perhaps another venture there would be worthy, hat tip to the Argentinian BQQ place that was packed as.. must have been good.
Back to the task at hand, Burger Burger in Ponsnobby is quite small and given its current popularity it was quite packed so we were tucked way in the back crampted into a corner, that said it seemed all the 2 person tables were really small but I guess I just have wide elbows or something I duno, small problem but whatever.
As per I was the first one there so I as always ordered a chocolate Thickshake, which was AWESOME and it had better have been for fucking $9! it wasn’t even that big… but credit where credit is due.. it was a fucking good thickshake
Interesting thing I’ve just been told while writing this, the owner of Burger Burger who sold out of the Mexico restaurant chain has made over one million dollars in the first year… that’s a hell of a profit which is coming out of the pockets of the poor saps that give into the hype of going to places like this, at least Mexico had epic food at a reasonable price, but I digress
lets get down to business
I had the Beef Burger to which it was reccomended by the waitress I added cheese , so while dicking around with it I also removed the home made pickels so I ended up with
Savannah Grass-fed Beef Patty ( standard medium rare)
Tomato Jam
Mustard
Mayo
this is what it looked like when it came out
First thing I noticed was how small these burgers are, I knew they weren’t huge but these things were tiny, I’m not saying they are slider size but they were certainly not enough for a meal, my date wasn’t fussed with the size as shes ‘ not a big eater’ but I am and I wanted more but I wasn’t about to pay another $12 for this little thing.. yep… $12 pretty high up there price wise for a small burger so it better be good right? well..
Taste was pretty damn good.. they had a great choice of ingredients prepared well, knowing what I know now I might have gone medium on the beef instead of medium rare but that’s how they come standard so that’s what I ordered
The mustard they used was out of this world, not sure if it was made or bought but it was pretty awesome and really set off the flavour.. unfortunately this was somewhat masked by an excessive bucket of Mayo which was over the top and falling out very quickly; half the amount would have been ideal.
In conclusion, I would rate this burger a 6 /10 , Losing points for being small and not epic enough to be worthy of such a price tag and being drowned in Mayo.
I wouldn’t bother going back for another burger but Morgan has already told me I need to go and try the pulled pork burger… so if anyone wants to shout me I’ll go but I wouldn’t spend another $50 on Dinner for 2 for fairly average burgers.
