Hey burger aficionados,
Apologies it’s been a bit quiet on the burger reviews of late, Tauranga only has so many places to go for burgers. There are some more places on my to do list but it’s not easy to get a date in this town either so fuck me right?
Anyway
Burgerfuel has yet another new creation, this time the Steak of the Nation, As I’ve said in the past burgerfuel either hit the nail on the head or occasionally has an epic fail with their limited edition burgers but my hopes for this one were pretty high going in.
For you’re hard earnt $16.90 burger only burger, you get.
Seared Tarragon and Garlic grilled Scotch Steak
Melted Cheddar
Sauteed Portobello Mushrooms
Tasty Bacon
Crispy Battered Onion Rings
Bearnaise Sauce
Rocket Relish and Aoili
on a wholemeal bun
As I said, goin in my hopes for this were very high, I remember the bluecheese and venison burger well and I had hoped this would be up in that sort of level
Firstly 2 things in this burger that I’m not a huge fan of, Mushrooms and oinion rings.. This turned out to not be a problem at all, the rings gave a nice flavour and texture to the bite and I couldn’t really taste the mushrooms. Perhaps the lack of mushroom taste is because mushrooms are tasteless fungus and shouldn’t be in food but hey, I don’t work here I just eat it..
Unfortunately given the nature of steak, as we all know from the classic steak sammie over summer, steak can be hard to manage when eaten between bread, it can pull out large portions at a time, the excess slapping you in the face and leaving a part of the burger steakless. My other main gripe with this burger is it got pretty soggy pretty quick, now that might not be the case for everyone, but for me the last quarter of the bun was basically stew im guessing the meats weren’t let dry which was a shame because.
This is right up there Idea wise from burgerfuel, on paper this is as good as the venison burger which got a rare 10/10 from me, and this could have got the same if it hadn’t been so soggy.
Right now having only had 1 I’m giving it a 7/10 for execustion as I had it, and I will be back to a different Burgerfuel soon to try someone elses creation to see if they can sort the moisture issues
Leme know if you’ve had similar findings and what you thought of it
Untill next time friends
