Message from the King – Movie Review

I love sitting down to a movie I know nothing about, one I have seen no advertising about and one that I stumble across on a rainy day… such is the case with “Message From The King”, what started out to be a semi-slow unravelling story quickly became a cleaver and well thought out adventure of revenge and honor.
The ending is a good little twist.

A man by the name of Jacob King (Chadwick Boseman) (The guy who plays Black Panther in the Marvel Movie) travels to Los Angeles from South Africa to seek his estranged sister Bianca  (Sibongile Mlambo) who he received a worried call from, upon arrival she is nowhere to be found and after a lengthy search he is advised to check the morgues.
In doing so he discovers that Bianca has been tortured and murdered, with this heartbreaking revelation Jacob sets out on avenging the death of his sister, using his street smarts and fighting knowledge to track down the people involved in the mess that was his sister’s demise.

Along the way we get hints of who Jacob could be, hints from other characters about his possible ties with the Numbers Gangs of South Africa, is this why he is so good and exacting aggressive vengeance?

Loved this film, thought it was great, good even acting by all the cast, believable performances and real emotional moments, it had a good balance of action, intrigue and shock, nicely paced (after the first 10 minutes) and digestible.

I was surprised after watching this film at the reviews of others, not so much what was said (as I haven’t actually read any comments) but more the overall % rating given, I’ve seen some half-assed top dollar flicks getting some pretty high ratings from sites like Rotten Tomatoes and IMBD, but what they gave this film really surprised me.
I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure, from start to finish and would watch it again many times.

So much of this film was plausible and to be honest, it has probably happened, nothing about it is that far fetched (apart from one or two fight scenes).

Really well worth a watch if you are into the whole… man loses loved one, man finds killers, man goes about killing the killers, twist ending. It’s not as straightforward as that, but in a nutshell it kinda is.
If not, then its still worth a dabble.
