Hey burger lovers!
Apologies its been so long since my last burger review but you have no idea how hard it is to get a date when you delete tinder!
First up full disclosure – Yep we have had a relationship with Burgerfuel for ages and we love them, but This burger was bought and paid for from a store that had no idea I was coming in to review it so this is in no way a promotion.
Right now we have that BS out of the way.. Deep breath…
PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY BURGER? WHAT THE F@#$ ??
As soon as I saw this I started to wonder how good could this actually be? Burgerfuel are well known for coming up with all sorts of crazy ideas for burgers, which they do limited runs of on the regular. I don’t feel like it needs to be mentioned but we all remember how awesome the venison and blue cheese burger was right? ( Bring that back please)
Now I actually made a peanut butter and jelly pizza a while back after seeing it on an Adam LZ video and decided it would be worth having a crack at; It wasn’t, it was shit. So you can Imagine how i felt going into this, but it had been ages and it needed to be tried.
So whats in it?
PBJ Burger
100% pure New Zealand grass fed beef patty.
Cheddar
Balsamic strawberries and Jam
Peanut Sauce
Salad / Aioli
Large wholemeal Bun
$12.90 nzd
Firstly, that’s one of the cheaper specials they have come out with, so that’s pretty cool. It’s all relative to ingredients when the prices come to vary through the specials. BF are pretty good about that sort of thing.
Right so we went to the Lincoln road store cause that was a middle ground between those in attendance. Again, no prior warning to the store. Didn’t take too long and over came the chap with my Burger. The first thing I said was ” That smells interesting, I don’t know about this” But because I’m a serious burger journalist I did it for you, in the interest of consumer advice. Now this wasn’t just ” a bit soggy” this thing was swimming. You can see in the picture its already starting to form a pool in the tray. I don’t know if that’s how it was supposed to be or if they went over the top on my one but this thing was damp, not moist, properly damp. Damp to the point where my doofer lost all structural integrity and couldn’t hold this thing together. But you know what? It actually worked, the taste I mean. It tasted really good. Think your normal peanut butter and jam on toast, then add a burger patty. I don’t know how they did it but the flavours worked together really well. Mine kinda varied between bites, It must be hard to get the right amount of flavours in each bite but when you get that bite that has all of them, its pretty damn good. unfortunately due to moisture content this thing fell to bits before I could finish it so I only got a little over half way through before calling defeat and ordering some chicken fenders for dinner.
Now I don’t want to bag this burger based off of my swimming experience on the plate – I’ll have to wait for feedback or alternatively go again to somewhere else to check if the moisture levels are consistent or if I just got a dud. If we ignore the moisture problem this was a good novelty burger. It wouldn’t be something I’d order on the regular but it’s pretty fun none the less and one of those things that’s worth trying while they have it. If the case turns out to be all of these burgers are this soggy then maybe either give it a miss or ask them to half sauce it something.
I’ve not put out of 10 scores on burgers lately, I feel like every burger is beautiful in its own right to the right person. as I say, lets wait for some feedback to roll in but if you’ve got the urge to try it, its definatnely worth it for novelty factor alone.
