Today was a big day of press conferences at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, otherwise known as E3. After Electronic Arts (EA) and Bethesda had their conferences yesterday, today they were followed up by 3 big ones from Microsoft/Xbox, Ubisoft and Sony/PlayStation. Here’s a brief overview of the more major announcements they made today.
Xbox was up first and opened up with what had already been leaked, the new Xbox One S which is capable of HDR Gaming, producing more realistic scenes in your games, along with 4K Ultra HD Video and Blu-Ray so you can, I guess “Netflix and chill” in 4K once August comes along.
Video game developer, The Coalition who are renowned for the creation of Gears of War had their studio head, Rod Ferguson come on stage and show off some Gears of War 4 gameplay and announce that it is to be released on October 11th, 2016.
Forza Horizon 3 was next up and my word the trailer was absolutely stunning, all the motor heads, car enthusiasts, boy racers or racing game lovers should be looking forward to the 27th of September this year to get your hands on this game.
One of the best zombie killing games and great characters returns with Dead Rising 4. Frank West, freelance photographer and photojournalist turned zombie hunter returns with a Christmas spring in his step over zombie corpses with new fun and creative ways to kill more zombies.
Xbox closed off strongly with the announcement of the next addition to the Xbox family, Project Scorpio. an enhanced version of the Xbox One that’s capable of running 4K-native games, and which will also support virtual reality experiences and feature a hefty six teraflops of power. You’ll have to wait until next year for it though.
Ubisoft were up next with what is so far the longest presser of E3 and also returned with Aisha Tyler (Lana Kane, Archer) as host, even after her cringe worthy hosting for Ubisoft at E3 last year.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole, the anticipated sequel to 2014’s South Parth: The Stick of Truth was given a confirmed release date of December 6th, 2016.
Ubisoft Massive Entertainment’s creative director, Julian Gerighty talked about The Division: Underground the DLC for The Division which will be released on June 28th for PC and Xbox One and August 2nd for PS4. The base of the new content is that your enemies have been regrouping after you defeated them in Manhattan and it’s your job to take them out, where? Underground.
For Honor returned again this year but with more gameplay and back story to show. It showed to have a great combat system, while it also felt reminiscent of Dynasty Warriors and The Lord of the Rings games, something I look forward to playing myself once March 17th, 2017 comes by.
Watch Dogs 2 moves away from the wet and dreary Chicago and heads to sunny and bustling San Fransisco, this sequel looks and feels more fun and the characters have more emotion and feel more relatable.
Closing off Ubisofts presser was a new game, Steep where you get to do extreme sports such as skiing, snowboarding, base jumping and wingsuiting on the Alps, it has stunning views and the game lets you play on your own, challenge other players to a race or have fun on the mountain while meeting other people in game while playing.
PlayStation closed out the day with a strong presser, they had a live orchestra at the front of their venue and said they had a great line up of games they hoped would please, and did they ever.
The first game started with a young boy playing outside in the snow until he is called inside by a deep voice to go for a hunt, who is that walks out of the shadows, it’s the man all Gods fear, Kratos and yes he is still ripped and badass, but is it Kratos? All we know for sure is the fourth installment of God of War is coming.
A new game called Days Gone was shown, which looked to be like if Sons of Anarchy met The Walking Dead. You’re a biker/drifter/mercenary in a zombie apocalypse. Lost what you’ve loved so now you’re trying to survive. The zombies in this aren’t just slow walkers or stumble runners, these full out sprint and it’s not just one, two, 10 or 20 zombies, it’s literally hundreds of zombies.
Resident Evil 7 was announced and it’s launching January 24th, 2017. It’s first-person and it’s compatible with PlayStation VR which sounds like a crazy combo, do you think you could handle that?.
PlayStation VR was a big talking point, with an X-Wing VR mission for Star Wars Battlefront, Final Fantasy 15 VR were shown off and Batman Arkham VR were all announced.
What came after? Well one of the biggest announcements came, PlayStation have been talking with Activision and Crash Bandicoot, Crash 2 and Crash Warped will all be remastered for the PS4. Yes, Crash Bandicoot is returning even though it is just a remaster.
Today was a good day for all gamers
