“G522 was made for gamers who bring passion and personality to everything they do,” said Ujesh Desai, vice president and general manager of Logitech G. “Whether you’re climbing the ranks, streaming for your audience, or pulling all-night gaming sessions, the G522 ups your game with top-tier performance, features, and style.”
Lets first understand where we’ve started and move forward from there. I’ve been daily driving the Steel series Arctis Pro with DAC for some time, they have serviced me well and integrate well into my set up. I’m not typically a headset guy, I like speakers however when trying to be respectful of others, or for gaming / streaming sessions the headset is used to provide both a more immersive audio for those sneaky footsteps or communications with the team to win the game.
First Impressions
Out of the Box this headset seems and feels exactly what I expected of a $248 ( from Noel Leeming at the time of review) headset, matching in well with the rest of the Logitech suite of offerings. Set up was not quite as straight forward as I would have liked, however I could say that due to the amount of other devices connected for various audio in and out-puts this wouldn’t be a problem for most if you’re simply pulling out one device and replacing it with another, I do like to have options and that comes with some compatibility issues and bottlenecks. After a little faff and quick recruit of my flatmate, we got these connected and working well. Instantly they feel light and comfortable which is as important as how they sound I think.
Lightspeed
High-Performance Wireless Technology
LIGHTSPEED
LIGHTSPEED is an end-to-end wireless solution that delivers low-latency and reliable performance. Wireless freedom is now a reality for all gamers.

So what are the benefits?
Well there are many, From a clean wire-free set up with minimal cable management needed, these with a little tasteful storage solution can make your set up look like something you see on instagram set up goals. A 3d printed hanger somewhere on your set up to display your fancy new headset, ideally with prox to charge while on display on the hanger. The other major advantage is if you’re up and down a lot during your gaming sessions is the complete removal of any need to take them on and off, with voice activated software like Discord you can talk on the go and let the team know you’ve gone for snacks or a Bio break.
So does it work?
Yes and it does it well, I can walk almost anywhere in my house and keep hearing what it going on, I can go upstairs to the fridge to get a drink and not miss the conversation or even need to mention that I’ve been up to do something. The only down side with this is the choice between voice activation or Push to talk ( which I have on my mouse ) – For my choice I can’t reply while moving around, should you choose Voice activation you’ll be at the whim of anyone who dare speak to you whilst on a mission for snacks or other refreshments. The convince factor tied in with the high level of comfort and very light weight means that you can wear these for long periods of time and not be in the slightest ( for me anyway ) discomfort or even awareness that you’ve had quite a fancy piece of kit on your melon for hours at a time. You can also detach the 3.5mm mic if you just want to listen and not speak which is a nice feature, with a Mute button and volume wheel behind your left ear everything is at your thumb tip to be adjusted for your enjoyment.
BUT HOW DO THEY SOUND?
Good, very good for the price. There does feel like some pass through which is great if you’re both on and offline talking to people near you in real life instead of over discord so again, you don’t need to be taking them on and off all the time. The sound reproduction is good, its good for $250 bucks however the focus on light weight and other features does then come at a cost of audio quality, however I would say as a power user and someone that demands high quality audio in a headset that these are great for the price however do be aware they are ( purely at an audio quality) mid-tier. The boys on Discord ( and our streams) said the mic was as good if not better than my ( perhaps out of date) Steel series DAC system, listening back to the stream they do sound good and clear even when I don’t cause we’re getting smoke and I’m getting animated. The dynamic range was impressive from reproducing loud explosions followed by intent listening for quiet signs of enemy players it does well to inform your ears what is happening at any given moment, however I couldn’t recommend these for Audio mastering – not that I would expect people buying these to go in that direction.
Should I get em?
Yes, if you’re looking for a comfortable gaming headset that is good value for money and comfortable for long gaming sessions.
No, if you’re looking for peak audio reproduction, these are good but they have features that focus places other than sound so that’s where the trade off is and I think only semi professional creators will find their limitations.
over 20 hours of useable battery ( with the lights going) 20m range that does cut through walls and floors quite well and the comfort to never be a choice to trade comfort for any other attribute, these are good buying if its the glass slipper to your gaming foot. It’s also worth mentioning that there is a new version of these that just came out this week, the G733 which carries the same attitude to the solution but a little more R&D – I did manage to get a quick little hands on with these at a Lenovo / Logitech event with Spark Gaming last week and they have defiantly continued their never ending trajectory of constant and worthwhile improvement with new offerings.
