New Tech – Samsungs ” The Frame “

Hey Team

So Jacinta and I were very lucky to be invited to the launch of Samsungs brand new ” The Frame ” today over a swanky lunch.

The first thing you should note about this TV, yep its actually a TV. Is that its a fully functional 4k UHD television with Samsung’s UI which was super slick and easy to use. It’s not the highest spec TV Samsung make, but its pretty up there but if you were expecting the OLED sort of picture you should just get that TV.

This unit is aimed at a very specific yet surprisingly not so small market,

ask yourself this, have you asked your wife if you can buy a new TV and shes said no cause it looks too ugly in the room when its off? well thats more or less directed at turning that no into a yes. Basically, as stated. its a good 4k TV, but with its remote ports and fancy bezels it can be made to look just like a picture on the wall and actually does a really good job of blending into the wall art when not in use, and works just like a normal TV when you want that.

I honestly didn’t think there would be much of a market for something like this, but then i pondered how many people try and fit their flat screen into a wall or somehow make it ” fit ” with the room, and realized there would be quite a few people who would be willing to give up the ultra high end picture quality for something that suits the room its put in when not in use.

Basically what it does is, when not being a normal TV it has a picture mode that adjusts the back-light to suit the brightness of the room giving it a subtle effect and will display an image, I did ask if it would do a slide show but apprently that wasn’t what they wanted to achieve they wanted to have an art piece, which of course you can change, there’s even a subscription ( as there always is these days) of $7 to get access to more high end pictures and art works to use.

The monitor when in picture mode will turn off after a maximum 4 hours but will also shut down when the lights in the room are turned off or even re activate when the lights are turned on or someone walks in the room ( 6 feet or closer to the sensor for motion), its a good a great viewing angle which might come in handy given where something like this might be placed. and the screen surface was impressively matte, there was some minor glare form other light sources in the room but it was heavily subdued to what you might expect from a high end panel.

Tech Specs

55′ or 65′
Resolution: 4k UHD, HDR, Active Crystal Colour
Sound: built in speakers, 2017 Samsung Smart Hub, Smart view, One remote control

If you do hand over the substantial price tag of $3999 for the 55 inch it will come with a basic table top stand, the flush wall mount which is adjustable but made ideally to sit flat against the wall, or a slight forward tilt if you want that real hanging picture effect. If you want the wooden frame which magnets on that’s an extra $290 ( I think they said)

one thing Jacinta was taken with was the Easel stand, which I had to agree was pretty dope for that minimalist set up, also the cable to the receiver box is hard to spot so a good upgrade in cable management for those that want that cleaner look, of course if you can put it through a wall that’s always gona be the best way.

for me personally I’m not overly fussed with how a TV looks in a room as its either a focal point or just more cool tech to look at, but I understand there is a market for it so it’l be interesting to see how these sell. This TV started to roll out today so if you want to go see one for yourself they are out now ish.
