Well, first things first I had no idea what I was getting myself into with this,
After dinner with friends ( vegans and the like) someone suggested Icecream, and I like icecream as much as the next person so I was like ” fuck yeah lets get at it” There was talk of the possibility of a line and I was thinking uh oh this is going to be along the lines of ben and jerrys..
Let me say, You’ve never experienced icecream like this before… EVER…
The first thing I thought when I walked in was ” oh this is a bit fancy” and ” where the fuck is the icecream??”
Get this, they make you taste test the ones you think sound good so you cause choose with your mouth not your eyeballs… ( steak houses take note) this was the most amazing concept and I loved it. on display were a number of cones I assumed were for special order or something but nope they are ready to go they looked brilliant.
Ok so, this isn’t cheap.. 2 scoops in a cone is $25. yes that’s not a typo, twenty five dollars.. but those cones. Not to mention this was justified with ” I’m a food journalist now too so may aswell go balls deep ” I couldn’t decide from the names what sounded best and the awesome staff asked ” what kinda flavours do you fancy?” I said chocolate but not too rich. and the process was super fun, friendly and exciting. I ended up with, what I can remember from my food coma
Afgan ice cream
Half ( clever again) covered in caramel sauce
Rolled in cornflakes ( I know crazy right? but it was awesome)
in a cone that was (working from the inside out) Cone > chocolate> rice bubbles > white chocolate
Sounds insane and over the top right? well.. it was, it really was but hey YOLO amirite?
This isn’t an ice cream joint, it’s an experience and as far as food experiences go this was the most involved and thought out and ultimately pleasurable experiences I’ve had with any food in New Zealand.
The kicker and I would expect part of the reason they are always packed is they offer a number of Vegan friendly options, which is when I realized ( thanks vegan fam) why we were there in the first place.
I have to say if you want to indulge yourself in a next level dessert experience you have to go and check this place out, and of course if you’re vegan or your friends are then this will make them happy. There were smaller more reasonable options size wise. It’s a lot to ask to finish a single cone like I had and I’m sure most people would be just fine with a cup as it has the same attention to detail.
Over all I’d give this place my very first 10/10. Yes its very expensive but its more than that, it’s an experience.. I would like to see them grow and have more seating
