Pre-workout formulas, what are they? Do you need them?

Hey guys,

Following from my intro into protein powder we thought it might be good to break down what some other things are and what they do.

Pre-workout products are a good one to start with, if you are new to the gym or you see them posted all over social media and see them being used by heaps of people and wondered why, here is a very basic break down of them. Or should I say, my opinion on them..

If you look at the adverts and read the labels you generally get 3 main features, energy, blood flow (muscle pump) and endurance. remember I am trying to keep it simple and break it down basic and open, Not trying to promote or sell you anything.

The energy usually comes in a massive amount of caffeine in some form, about the same as like 4 small energy cans!! The pump in the form of something to help thin the blood and rush it into the muscles your training and endurance using something like beta- alanine which helps slow down lactic acid build up and keep you going longer. They come with a scoop so you can control the amount of the serving you have, but the general gym rule is take far more than what your recommended too. Usually that’s where people start to not find them good.

If your caffeine sensitive or not used to big servings of caffiene you obviously can go from feeling sick, not being able to sleep, anxious and so on. The pump ingredients are most likely not to give you too much trouble but the endurance ingredients are possibly going to feel like you sweaty itchy skin.

So do you need them??? No, you can certainly work out without them. Do I use them? yes, the added energy etc does help me train but is very easy to get into the habit of using them for your work outs and adding another cost into the gym. If you are going to try them, take it easy and have half a serving to see how you respond. Don’t just smash 2 or 3 scoops then feel like shit… and try and talk to someone in the shop who can suggest the best one for you as the brands do have huge amounts of difference between them.
