Top 5 E3 2016 Highlights

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Nintendo showed off their new Legend of Zelda game with a 30 minute demo, it showed the absolute freedom the game has with it being an open world environment of Hyrule after it has been destroyed by a great evil and reclaimed by nature. There is no clear path for you to follow, no specific order of dungeons to complete or signs that would suggest a dungeon is this or that way and you can use almost anything as a weapon, you’re not just restricted to your sword and bow and arrow. The art style of the game is like Twilight Princess meets Wind Waker, simple yet beautiful. I haven’t touched many of the latest Legend of Zelda games apart from Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask for the 3DS just because those games were amazing years ago and I don’t have a N64. If this game is as amazing as it seems to be then I may just be buying Nintendo’s next console the codenamed “NX”.

Resident Evil 7
That’s right Resident Evil is returning with it’s 7th installment. It’s played by a first person perspective which sounds like it is going to be a real adrenaline pumping and frightening game. And it should be as it’s going to be fully playable in PlayStation VR which is TERRIFYING! Who wants to play a scary ass game in VR, first scary thing I see I’ll be like “Nope! nope, nope!” and never return to playing VR again. Your senses will be out of control because you’ll be worrying about what’s around the corner. It’s great that the series is returning and it’s looking to come back scarier than ever, you’d have to have balls of steel to play this game in VR.

Virtual Reality
It was a great event for VR all around with Xbox announcing that their new console, Project Scorpio will be VR ready though I don’t see many, if any (Ha!) video game developers jumping on the VR bandwagon and pushing out games, they’ll more than be PC titles that are playable through the full integration of Windows 10. PlayStation announced a line up for 50 games on launch for their PlayStation VR while also having showcased Resident Evil 7 (above), Farpoint VR and Final Fantasy XV VR gameplay along with an announcement of Batman: Arkham VR and a mission for Star Wars Battlefront where you are looking through the eyes of an X-Wing Pilot. Bethesda announced that Fallout 4 will be coming to VR, yes the whole game will be playable in VR and DOOM VR which sounds like it would be a vomit comet with how fast paced it can be and everything that is going on.

Hideo Kojima and Death Stranding
Hideo Kojima had probably the best entrance at E3 and announcing “I’m back”. That Konami debacle didn’t hinder Kojima at all. Everyone’s been wondering what happened after he left Konami, well Kojima continued on with his own video game development company, Kojima Productions who were rumoured to have teamed up with Sony and PlayStation. That is now well and truly confirmed. Kojima presented the everyone with the world premiere trailer of his new game, Death Stranding starring The Walking Dead actor and TV star, Norman Reedus. The trailer for Death Stranding was very eerie and had a great feel of mystery to it. I can’t wait to see more of what’s to come of Death Stranding.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole (Wording is important)
From a silent protagonist, to a return of a series, to evolution of gaming, to an eerily mysterious trailer, the last highlight of E3 in my eyes was, South Park: The Fractured But Whole. It’s always great to see something that doesn’t take itself so serious and provides some amazing humour into the gaming scene. South Park: The Fractured But Whole (I laugh every time I type that), is a sequel to the first game, South Park: The Stick of Truth. Stick of Truth had turn based, stay in place combat now it’s evolved and become turn based, roam around the battle field kind of like Chess. If you love South Park, this will definitely be for you, if you don’t then that’s fine, but that’s not going to stop me thinking that there is something wrong with you. This has all the details from the TV show and all that humour that the fans know and love.

That’s my Top 5 highlights from E3 2016, there was many to choose from but these 5 really stood out
