What Protein do you want????

Hey guys,

Nic put to me a good question, he asked me to explain how and why I would suggest which Protein Powder to buy?

A lot of people see protein tubs or shakes and know people have them after the gym, but don’t always know why? or which one would suit?

I don’t want to get really technical and am not trying to sell anyone anything. Just want to break down some of the basics….

So why? Protein is made up of amino acids, your muscles, skin, hair, nails etc are all fueled by amino acids. When you work out and use your muscles, if you do not provide the muscles with the nutrients they will take the amino acids stored in other muscles to help repair the muscles you have used while working out. The quickest easiest way to get these absorbed into your body is with a protein shake.

There are lots of types of Protein powders containing lots of different types of protein with lots of other ingredients. To keep it simple, if you are lactose intolerant or not good with dairy for any reason a good quality Whey protein isolate (wpi) is going to be the best for your tummy being 92% lactose free and the best quality protein you can feed your body. If you are on a super strict diet and training program a wpi is the ideal choice too.

For most people who live a normal life without a perfect diet and don’t have issues with dairy then they do not need to spend the money on the most expensive protein powders at all. Most good brands from around the world that are made up of a blend of proteins and will have a few grams of sugar and that taste great will be more than great for you to have as part of your eating / training program. I would personally say that the nicer it tastes the more you will enjoy it and have regularly. There are so many sales and options out there you can often get great deals from shops or online. Even the daily deals sites have some great products for ridiculous cheap prices.

Pretty much most of them with have a blend of about 80% protein, be low calorie, low in sugars and taste pretty damn good. If you like a sweeter milk shake like taste go for an american brand and if you want something 100% true to label stick to a NZ or Australian brand, they are tighter on the regulations of contents which sometimes goes hand in hand with how they taste.

I hope that is some help for you guys, please comment on Fb with any questions you have on anything. I am always happy to help if I can.

I have not had the most productive week at the gym myself a combination of my shoulder playing up more than it has been and a heap of things going on personally has all played a part on it. Remember life is always going to happen, the more times I can get to the gym to train the better but if it doesn’t happen then I just try and get them all in next week. Don’t beat yourself up or stress about it. Life is a long thing and as long as you keep working towards your goals you will get them.

I hope everyone has had a good week, I will post up again next week 🙂

Matt
