The Burger Bach – Review
That’s right another burger review!
Thankfully this wasn’t another ponsonby well marketed over hyped ordeal, in fact it was only chosen cause i knew that it was next to sals in Takapuna as a point of reference when the date was based in Takapuna and it was burger night,
There were no reviews for this place on google when I looked so I thought well, I had best get onto this place..
Firstly, I was late.. cause I am useless and Takapuna is miles from me but that’s ok my date said once I arrived that the staff had made her feel very welcome and at home with a how are ya mate sort of attitude, this was a great thing to hear and I also recieved the same forth coming chatty but not over the top welcoming attitude just like you would with someone you’d hung out with a bunch of times before, I really liked this
… the Shake, ( this seems to have become an integral part of burger reviews… firstly they had the classic paper cups which instantly added points for nostalgia, there were a great many things around that gave a really nice at the beach in a classic bach that hadn’t been messed with from the simple steel chairs and basic wood tops.. but yes, the shake
Not the best shake I’ve had of late… certainly wasn’t a bad shake just… simple.. I don’t mean that to sound negative but going from the burger burger shake to this wasn’t exactly a let down, more like coming back down to earth for the simple life.. and at only $4 for a full size large shake I was more than happy with that.
We looked at the Menu, I almost went for a very nice sounding chicken burger but for the sake of these reviews I’ve been sticking with the more ” standard” beef cheese etc style burgers to try and keep a bit of consistency for science, my date went with the chicken burger I was tempted by and it was pretty awesome, but …
The Bachelor
$9.50
Prime NZ Beef
Cheddar Cheese
Lettuce
Tomato
Red Onion
Aioli
+ I added bacon because bacon…
We didn’t have to wait too long for our burgers but we did have a couple of ” oh are those our burger moments” which as we all know are part of the fun…. mhmm
As soon as our burgers made it over my date literally rolled up her sleeves and tied her hair back… I can tell you at this point I was not thinking about burgers at all.. but that’s another blog
Everything was really well presented again keeping with that ” simple” idea of being at the bach which again I thought was really well done and most welcome.
Burgers are well sized I felt well filled without having over done myself which was a bonus, shared was a very generous helping of Kumara fries ( side note kumara chips with tomato sauce is weird but I suggest you try it anyway)
Mouth feel scale was right up there, this was a great burger to get your hands around and really chow into , at no point was it overly moist which causes most burgers to turn soggy and fall apart so that was both awesome and rare.
The only thing this burger really lacked was flavour… not to say it had none but we certainly thought it could use more… not a lot more.. bland would be far too strong a word … it just could have had more
Over all I’d give this burger a Solid 8/10 – would nom again for sure. bonus point for keeping it real
As I say for an awesome place to hang out and eat some great burgers like you remember from the bach back in the day if you’re uncle was the man at making burgers, and at a reasonable price given 2 burgers, a side of Kumara fries 2 soft drinks and of course the shake was I think $34 is great value…
If you want to check them out they are 1-7 the strand in Takapuna, just next to sals 😉
