Deep Creek are a great Auckland Brew Pub who make a great range of IPA’s and Pale Ales.
They also from time to time make some more exotic beer, like this aged Vanilla Chocolate Porter. It comes in a great big bottle complete with a wax sealed top. After carving through the wax and popping the top you are greeted with quite a light beer. It has lots of head, very light bubbles and only subtle aromas. The taste follows through on this theme, being quite subtle and almost subdued. I was expecting a big chewy in your face porter, and while Bascilica is dark in colour, it s light on the tongue. Still contains all of the depth and complexity of flavour you expect, just in a more subtle and gentle way. It is an enjoyable way to drink a porter, but does require some attention to pick up the flavours.
This is a great beer for the full on beer nerds, or those new to drinking real beer.
