Burgerfuels – Blue Velvet Burger Review

So yeah we were invited to the launch of this burger and I said at the time it was awesome in webisode 7 > click here for that < But I thought it was important to go review the burger at a burgerfuel when they didnt know I Was coming so I would get the same as what any other punter would get.

So to our usual format,

Parking was a piece of cake cause I went to Silverdale burgerfuel which is the closest to me and there is a heap of parking in the block of shops they are in.

no wait time because we were on our way back from the city around 2pm and things were pretty quiet, didn’t take long for the food to come either

I didn’t get a milkshake as I kinda wasn’t feeling it and I know full well that the new style of milkshakes at burgerfuel are good albeit smaller than they used to be now using premium ingredients.. personally I think they should have stayed how they were but that’s just me, and this is my article.. so there!

The Burger – ” Blue Velvet ” $14.90

NZ Free Range grilled Venison pattie
Puhoi creamy blue cheese
Black currant and red onion preseve
lettuce, tomato and aioli
on a wholemeal bun

*that’s their image but it does look that good no catfishing on this burger

Now the first thing most people would think is ” damn that’s going to be rich” which it isn’t, not to say its bland, not by a long shot it has tones of noticeable and enjoyable flavours, but it’s not as overpowering as you might think. those that have had wild venison before would expect something perhaps more “gamey” alas I assume many of the people trying this havent had wild venison before, this certainly had those tones alas its not overwhelming the flavors mix together really well and as you work your way through you pick up hints of new flavours with each bite which I really enjoyed. typical burgerfuel size so.. rully big .. I had mine with smashbrowns ( which are awesome and you should totally have them but the marmite aioli is crappy ) however I do think something like kumara fries would have added another quality flavour to the mix but you can’t get smashbrowns all the time ( which you should be able to burgerfuel people) so I got those while I could..

The major downside I had with this burger is the preserve.. there was just way too much of it, now this might be how that particular burgerfuel does it as i had a similar experience with a over-sauced satay burger there not long ago, but it does kinda matter cause I want the flavour but I dont want my doofer falling apart cause its too soggy.. there has to be a limit. That being said my choice to review something incognito wasn’t overly necessary cause it was just as good there as it was when we went to the press night for it, so its good to know the quality does make it from head office down to the front lines

Overall I would totally recommend trying this burger as its something a bit different and a bit awesome however I would totally understand that some might be put off by a $14.90 burger only price personally I’m happy to pay that for the quality

This burger scored a 9/10 on my om-nom-ometer and I will defiantly go back while they are still around but I’ll get the kumara fries next time
