Webisode #40 – Precession of the Equinoxes

In this webisode.

Holden Flew Nick down to get a first look at the new Holden Equinox and drive it around some epic locations through out the Taranaki region. Most importantly heading through the Forgotten Highway to the republic of Whangamomona.

And a few other treats in there too.

Enjoy!

A couple thoughts on the Equinox from the trip ( since that’s why we were there )

One thing that stuck out during the presentation was that Holden wanted this to feel like a Holden and still be fun to drive. Well, I was very surprised that they actually were a heap of fun. You can imagine 12 motoring journalists loose in the country side through lots of twists and turns and some pretty gnarly gravel roads, we certainly tested them thoroughly and I have to admit we had fun! for a SUV powered only by a 2L turbo it had some poke, a lot more than I had expected. I didn’t get a chance to drive the 1.5 engine variant but from what others said it was a decent little motor

The truck itself is not something that appeals to me at all, mostly cause I’m just me and this is very much a family car. however it had some neat features and the further up the spec’s you go, you can actually get some pretty premium options, like the full glass roof and the motion sensing tailgate lift for when you don’t have any hands free

Personally It wouldn’t be on my radar of something to buy, if I were to go down that track I’d sooner get a TrailBlazer as they to me feel more like a truck which I enjoy and am used to. But I think given they are aiming this right at the people in the market for a Mazda CX-5, it would be interesting to see how it goes in sales. for the same money I feel the Holden is a more premium feel than the Mazda but my only experience of the CX-5 was a few road trips last summer with a friend who owns one. What would be interesting would be his opinion to see if he could be swayed.

Until we get that conclusion I’ll just assume the Holden is better
