THE EMPIRE

It’s been a while since we did a food review, apologies for that haven’t been trying anything new lately, BUT!
We went to El Sizzling Chorizo tonight, just by chance, I’d seen it before and Sam suggested we stop in here cause its a good BBQ feed. I just got my old man a Weber Coal BBQ for fathers day and thus my taste for some good BBQ has been teased. Also Sam was an hour and a half late but I’m over that now
So, parking is a bit of a shit, being the middle of ponsonby you might want to avoid a popular night. but we got lucky this time round. We also got lucky with seating, the place was packed and there were 2 seats at the bar that overlooks the firepit where they cook the food, watching that was an awesome part of the experience so I recommend that if you can.
Given there were so many options they thankfully do a platter, the girl said it might not be enough for 2 so we deicded if we were still hungry we’d order more after.
So we ordered:
Orejano Platter $38
1 chorizo,
1 Empanada,
pork belly,
flank steak,
1 bread and barbequed potatoes
What can I say, every part of this was amazing, the Chorizo was the best sausage that I have ever tasted, the flank steak was perfect, so incredibly tender it was falling to bits and all the meat had a perfect bark layer and even the salting was spot on.
This was likely the best food experience I’ve ever had, all we could talk about in the car was how amazing it was. the atmosphere, the food everything. The staff were authentic and most pleasent to talk to, they really made us feel like they wanted us to have a great experience, which we did
Now this is going to be my very first 10/10 food experience for this website ever, we couldn’t even think of a way to improve on this..
But we did, Imagine the same food but, instead of having it all come out at once, Imagine if it was like a teppenyaki where you get a side of the BBQ potatos and a drink, and as soon as the meat is ready its slapped infront of you, then you can sit and graze at the bar for a longer time and add / subtract things you want more or less of.
We deemed that’d be a harder thing to track for the staff but what an experience that would be.
Also we didnt end up ordering anything else, this platter was just enough for the two of us, so if you take a lady friend you might get a bit more but you can always throw in some pork ribs or something like that as well
I can’t urge strongly enough how much you need to get to this place, I will 100% be back again if I ever get a fkn tinder match or ya know a date..
