“If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to eight billion people.
We are coming close to … Disclosure Day.”
This could be one of Steven Spielberg’s best works to date. It’s been a long time since we’ve had such a thought provoking blockbuster that talks about these kind of events. From the battle between good and evil holding the cards to world changing information, to the question of what would God think of Aliens? This film touches on a lot of big ideas.
Any of you who have seen Close Encounters of the third kind will be ready for what this movie is suggesting, however the depth is far greater than most ‘alien’ movies. From ‘found footage’ that seems a hell of a lot like all of the viral things that have been out on the internet, and before the internet. The film suggests an organization that transcends government reach holds the keys to the information many of us have suspected since Roswell is quite real, as are the secrets and a young digital security math wiz is bent on exposing the secrets. The balance comes from his significant other who adds the element of faith into the mix in a very fair way.
The film is set during World War 3 ( or at least the foothills of it) and the idea being that ‘ humanity’ can’t handle the truth. Do you think people should know?
I thoroughly enjoyed this film, Disclosure Day touches on so many conversations that I’ve had with friends and jokes made on our social media, leading the question. “Are aliens real? does someone know? what aren’t they telling us” and perhaps most importantly what can be learnt from our interstellar friends? Disclosure Day will be one of the next big blockbuster films that lasts through generations, This isn’t a story often tackled and rarely written in such a way that it feels like it could be exactly whats going on behind curtains, that makes it far more engaging and draws an audience in to the belief that what you’re seeing on screen could and possibly is going on.
On a more personal note, my takeaway as we were leaving the cinema was, using the film The Matrix as an example. ” It’s awfully clever of the big Hollywood people to put up a film that suggesting something conspiracy theorists subscribe to and then calling it a work of fiction” – suggesting that its very clever to put out a film that shows ideas and theories that many believe to be true;, in a very convincing way and have us think that “It’s just a movie”
There are few story arcs’ I’ll leave out of this that were enjoyable and best experienced for yourself. I strongly recommend this as a watch even if you like the aliens visiting us stories. This is a big film, with big ideas and big secrets. Well worth a visit to the Cinema
